Strategy -
Our strategy is simple: Move as many balls as possible from our side of the arena to the other side. This strategy was chosen from two other potential strategies (focusing on heavy balls and focusing on defense). A machine based on this strategy has the most adaptability compared to the other strategies.
Machine Concept -
The most important design principle for us is simplicity. A machine that is complex has a much higher risk of failure than a simple machine. That's why we designed or machine concept around the tape measurer. Not many moving parts are involved with our design. The tape measurer simply extends underneath all the balls in the pit and lifts upwards at the other end. Motors at either end of the machine control the extension and retraction of the tape measurer. This design avoids the complexity of arm designs while arguably performing the task more efficiently.
